The claim
"A film shows military doctors dissecting a Roswell alien."
Where the idea comes from
Producer Ray Santilli sold the footage to broadcasters worldwide in 1995 as 1947 military film.
What the evidence shows
- In 2006 Santilli admitted it was a staged "reconstruction", claiming he had once seen real footage that had decayed.
- Sculptor John Humphreys said he made the body, filled with sheep brains, chicken entrails and knuckle joints.
- Pathologists noted at the time that the procedure looked nothing like a real autopsy.
What is still open
No evidence that any original footage existed.
Our verdict
Debunked An admitted fake.
